Welcome to the Central FL Chapter of the American Hibiscus Society
We are a group of hibiscus lovers that meet monthly to learn, share and celebrate the beauty of The Queen of the Tropics
HIBISCUS
Our next show is on March 30th, 2013
We meet the Second Sunday of the Month at our NEW LOCATION FL Federation of Garden Clubs, 2:00 pm. We do not have meetings on the months of July and December.

I am representing Pine Castle Garden Club. Several members have requested that we have a program in the coming year about hibiscus. Do you have a member who presents such a program? We are a small group that meets in our homes from September through May. I would appreciate any help you can offer.
I can’t find your web address to issue you an invitation to the Seminole county Centennial Celebration on April 20, 2013. Barbara Hughes
Update to Victor: I tried again today and was able to link to tried and true.
I am glad you did! They are great folks there!
Thanks Victor for the information. Sorry for my delayed reply. I can not connect to tried and true site that you suggested. Do you know if they are still in business? Thanks again. Carolyn
Lookng for local source to buy large double white hibiscus. No one seems to have.
I don’t mean Rose of Sharon; I have that. Any ideas? Thanks
Carolyn you might want to check with http://triedandtruehibiscus.com/ they are the plant supplier for our shows and they have a great selection. Randy or Annelle will be more than happy to help you. Good luck!
Several years ago a friend in your society told me to make a mixture to help my hibiscus bushes. It included Listerine and dishwashing liquid. I can’t seem to find the “recipe” again. Can you help? Thank you.
That is one of Jerry Baker’s recipes. If you do a search for Jerry Baker recipes I am sure you can find it. I don’t know exactly the mix. Used to do that but have been years since I have done it. You might also want to check his books, he has books with all the recipes using household items to take care of problems in the garden. Good luck!
Before we get into it, many people want to know, “How do I tell if I Have a Hardy Hibiscus or a Tropical Hibiscus?” and “Will My Hibiscus Overwinter Outside?”
You need to know which one you have. Unfortunately, garden centers, nurseries and home improvement centers lump all hibiscus together.
If your hibiscus has glossy deep green leaves, 3-6″ flowers of red, pink, orange, yellow, double or single flowers, it is probably a TROPICAL hibiscus. While many common garden varieties have the 3-6″ blooms, many of the hybrid varieties of tropical hibiscus can have blooms around 10″ in diameter under ideal conditions.
Another way to check is if the flowers are salmon, peach, orange, or yellow, or double flowered, then you probably have a TROPICAL hibiscus. Hardy hibiscus do not come in these colors or in doubles! Many tropical hibiscus flowers have more than one color in a bloom either in bands or as spots.

Do you know of any hibiscus growers who would like to be vendors at our up-coming event, October 16th, Saturday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm? If so please ask them to call (941) 761-2866, fax (941) 7617355 or e-mail us regarding price, space, etc. and/or to answer any questions. We would love to have someone selling hibiscus here(we have a large turnout of orchid growers).

The University of Florida’s Master Gardener Program in Seminole County is sponsoring the first ever Master Gardener EXPO on behalf of the Seminole County Cooperative Extension Service. The EXPO will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010, at Red Bug Lake Park. What sets this event apart from routine lawn and garden shows? Educating the public is the number one goal of EXPO.
The Expo web site, http://seminolemastergardenershow.org, lists the many excellent speakers and demonstrations, including Tom MacCubbin and Leu Gardens’ Director Robert Bowden.
Several exhibit sites have been reserved for non-profit organizations that promote horticultural and environmental education, and we invite you to consider joining us for this great Expo. For complete information about the EXPO, including application forms, please see the web site.
We will be happy to send information to you via the postal mail, if you will send your mailing address to:
